About

Perched atop Castle Rock, an extinct volcanic plug, Edinburgh Castle is a world-famous landmark and a symbol of Scotland's rich history. It has served as a royal palace, military garrison, and state prison over centuries. Visitors can explore its many historic buildings, including St Margaret's Chapel (Edinburgh's oldest building), the Crown Jewels of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the Great Hall, and the National War Museum of Scotland. The castle also hosts the daily One O'Clock Gun ceremony (except Sundays) and provides stunning panoramic views across the city of Edinburgh. It is one of Scotland's most visited paid attractions.
